Authors/Publishers

I am happy to take requests for people who want their book to be featured on my blog. I can write an honest review, do an author interview (over email or even in person), guest post or anything else you can think of. Feel free to be creative and send me any wild, crazy ideas you have.

Review Requests

I accept review requests from everyone; I support both traditionally published and self-published authors. My reviews are always 100% honest and if I don't enjoy a book it will receive a negative review from me however they will never be overly mean or bash the author. I try to keep negative reviews constructive; just because I didn't like the book doesn't mean other people wont love it so I aim to write reviews that will allow readers to make well informed decisions about if they will enjoy the book. It is very rare for me to post a negative review as I can generally tell from the synopsis if the book is something I will enjoy and I will only accept review requests if I expect to love the book.

I will treat all requests equally whether they are self-published or from a large publishing house, by a debut author or by one who is already well established. If I think it is a book I will enjoy then I would love to review it here on my blog. I am more than happy to read ARC copies and I do accept ebooks (though I prefer hard copies).

I don't give expected dates for reviews though if you send me a book pre-release I will aim to have a review up within 2 weeks of the release date. I try to roughly read books in the order I have received them but I also read what I feel in the mood for at that moment in time as I think that will give both me a more enjoyable reading experience and you a better review. Because of this I can not give estimates on when to expect my review.

Due to the number of review requests that I receive, currently I will only respond to emails if I am agreeing to feature your book. If you don't hear from me then I have decided at this time for whatever reason that this book is not for me or I simply don't have enough time and I wish you and your book the best.

What books I will consider

My preferences are YA (all genres) and Fantasy (in all of its incarnations) but I will consider requests for any genres except the following: Non-fiction, Horror and Erotica / Erotic Romance. Romance novels are more than welcome (I am still particularly partial to an occasional NA romance or a PNR) however we will no longer feature books with numerous and highly descriptive sex scenes. Access to this site is not restricted to over 18's so no explicit covers - regardless of actual content in the book. If I have agreed to read your book but decide the content is too sexual for a review on this site I will email to let you know that I wont be posting a review here but I will still rate the book on goodreads and post a short review to amazon if you wish.

What I would love to read

I am especially interested in reviewing Fantasy/Dystopian/Sci-Fi and Paranormal novels with amazing world-building. I love books with strong, feisty heroines who do things rather than just letting stuff happen to them.

In the realm of contemporary/realistic YA, I would love a gritty novel that tackles real issues and will tug on my heartstrings a little. Be different, push boundaries, and a little diversity is always appreciated.

I want New Adult novels that don't just seem to be a carbon copy of one of the hundreds (not exaggerating!) that I have already read. Non-contemporary NA review requests are much appreciated and if it is contemporary please nothing that sounds like another rewrite of the bestsellers like Beautiful Disaster, Losing It, Hopeless, Easy, Real etc. (these are favourites of mine, your book will just end up being compared and will most likely not be as good in my eyes). Bring me something fresh and unique and you have a good chance of me agreeing to review it.

I do love a little romance but actually prefer when it is not the main focus of the book. If nothing happens in your book other than the two main characters getting together, having a misunderstanding then working it out and getting back together then I might get bored. I prefer books to have romance rather than actually BE a romance novel.

Interviews

I am now located in London which allows for something that wasn't really possible before, in person interviews! Having now done one, these are a fantastic way of producing an interview that is more unique and engaging. So if you (or the author you represent) are based near London or are visiting, then let me know if you are interested in being interviewed face to face. Interviews can still be conducted over email.

Feature Friday

Every Friday I promote an author through either an interview or a guest post, these usually get great page views and are a way for you to share what is special about your book. Guest post topics I love to have are -
  • Your journey into publishing
  • The inspiration behind your book
  • A post on something you feel strongly about - this doesn't need to be an issue that your book tackles

Books to be considered for features must fit the same criteria as if for a review. Please send me an email if you are interested in having your book involved in Feature Friday.

Here are some examples of previous posts - http://www.bookishtreasures.blogspot.co.uk/p/interviews-guest-posts.html

If you have a post idea to pitch, fantastic! If not just let me know about your book and we can go from there.

Giveaways

I would also love to do giveaways of one or more copies of your book (or swag or anything you would like!) if that is something you are interested in. I feel that these work best alongside a post such as an author interview or review so please don't contact me only about a giveaway.

Blog Tours

I am no longer participating in any blog tours unless a) it would be an exclusive feature/interview to coincide with Feature Friday or b) I have read the book prior to agreeing to review as part of a tour.

Cover Reveals, Excerpts etc.

Like blog tours, I will no longer be participating in any group cover reveals - though for any books I am super excited for I will likely share the cover on twitter/Instagram. Generic excerpts as part of a blog tour or similar will also be not considered. Both of the above I WILL consider if it would be an exclusive reveal with bookish treasures and I am more than happy to discuss interesting, unusual reveal options also.

Contact me

If you want to contact me to request a review or anything else you can email me at bookishtreasures@gmail.com. There are also other ways I can be contacted on the Contact Me page.

Hi Laura,

You invited me to your blogaversary, which I will log onto in just a few minutes, but in the meantime, I checked out your blog--and love it! You seem so accessible and genuine in your writing. Since I believe in tapping into what is true for me at ALL times, I can relate to your love of what you do.
I, obviously, love the written word and the immense power it has to change people's perspectives. When I started my NA novel. FLAWLESS, in 2010, I had no idea I was writing an NA novel (I think the genre was just developing as my story was) but it felt "right" to me. Readers of the first drafts would say things like, "I really like it but I can't fathom what market it fits into." It took me two years to write the book and a year to edit (I don't know what that says about my writing ability but I guess you'd say I subscribe to the "hare v. tortoise approach to creating a story, ha,ha), but I am happy with the result and my modest number of fans have overwhelmed me with their praise. Okay, so one of the Amazon reviewers was my brother, but, honestly, he gave me the lamest review (lol). All the others were strangers whom I now think of as friends.

Sorry to go on and on; Hemingway I'm not. But I'd love it if you'd like to read FLAWLESS. And I'd love to do a giveaway with you. My hard copy comes out Jan 22nd!!!!
