Mini Reviews - The Kiss Off, The Inheritance Part 1 and Blood Chosen

3 Dec 2013
Mini reviews are a new little thing here at Bookish Treasures. You see, sometimes it is hard to find a lot to say about a book. Maybe it is hard to write a long review without including spoilers or maybe the book didn't really inspire us and we don't have much to say. Sometimes it might even be that for whatever reason we were unable to write a review after finishing the book and though we can still remember our feelings for the book easily, we can't remember the details clearly enough for a long review. Or maybe it is just a very short book so there isn't much to talk about! Whatever the reason, we still want to share our thoughts on these books with you so expect the occasional bunch of mini-reviews!

The Kiss Off synopsis

This is a YA book that, while not particularly deep, is an enjoyable read. The story is dramatized but most stories with celebrities are and there are a few hints that the author is not American but few places seem to convey the world of music and movie celebrities like the U.S. so I understand the necessity of the locale selection. I enjoyed the fact that the heroine was talented and, for the most part, grounded. There are actually some good teaching points in it regarding discretion in the internet age and sexting but really the story focuses on the ups and downs of a surreal relationship. It has a bit of a Cinderella feel in that things seem to happen overnight but the author doesn't gloss over the negative aspects of fame so that seems to balance it somewhat.  I will note that while there isn't really any explicit sexual content, there are some elements such as excessive underage drinking that may not be suitable for everyone.

This book is mysterious and intriguing and left me wanting more. I’m not always a fan of serialised novellas but this first book worked well. We were introduced to the characters, the backstory and the plot to these books. Maggie seems like a great character and though the others seem relatively simple I think they have secrets which will appear in future books.

The idea behind these serial novellas is awesome; four characters in a race to solve a mystery in the hopes of winning 10 million dollars. I think this series is going to be pretty awesome and I can’t wait to read more.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, this has not affected my opinions or rating in any way.*

You can get the first book in this series Blood Singers free from Amazon.

Tamara Rose Blodgett's NA novels have this dark sexiness to them that I really love. Blood Chosen is no exception and is one of my favourites so far. Julia is a strong, powerful female character and the love interests are equally strong and incredible sexy. This series has a sort of love triangle going on but boy does it work! Unlike some books where it is obvious a second love interest has been added for extra drama and will clearly never get the heroine I don't have a clue who Julia will choose.
I am excitedly looking forwards to the next book in this series.
